Hello folks
This short video very quickly tells why a tarp can quickly be your best alternative for a shelter arrangement. There are several adaptations and arrangements that a tarp can provide for you. In addition if you have an entire section of Rangers armed with tarps you can make a section sized shelter. Light and easy to store in a ruck. I use the light and durable silicone impregnated MEC Scout Tarp.
Food for thought.

Not sure tarp is or would be my best friend.
ReplyDeleteKnife's are far better as a best friend. Sorry pal stay in the office with that kind of advice.
Also i see that the terrace patrol is pretty weak on real outdoor rangers,If you make posts like that.
ReplyDeleteI think that the point was missed somehow. I don't see anywhere in Richards comments stating that a tarp is your best friend. Rather he comments on how it can be your best alternative to other shelters. You may be correct in saying that the knife is your best fiend but maybe being able to read a simple blog and respond with some advice that actually makes sense should be your priority. Sorry Anonymous maybe you should go back to grade 3 with that level of comprehension.
ReplyDeleteMarty/Anonymous,(Hard to say when you start off by saying "also") before you write you should try to clarify yourself on your definition of weak outdoor rangers. Your ignorance on what the role, mission and tasks of the ranger is evident to everyone but you apparently. Making comments about a whole ranger patrol based on one persons blog not only shows your discriminatory nature but possibly your inability to communicate in writing at the same grade 3 level as Anonymous. If you have nothing tangible to bring to the table, please do us all a favour and let us bath in your silence.
Good food for thought Richard
You are entitled to your opinion. The purpose of this blog post was merely to show a quick alternative to other shelter systems.
ReplyDeleteI have a one man tent (3lbs) but I can see where this type of tarp has some real advantages. Being able to have a fire nearby is pretty nice. The extra room lets you hang stuff inside and allows you to keep your rifle close by but still be semi maneuverable unlike a small tent/bivy bag where you're constrained.
ReplyDeleteHaving a quick shelter is invaluable to any person in the bush especially in the Canadian north where the weather can change on a dime. Building a lean to is a good skill but I've learned from experience that it takes quite a bit of time and energy to do one properly and they're still not 100% rain proof like a tarp shelter is.
BTW - I think it was John Wayne who said "Life is tough, it's even tougher when you're stupid" so I'm guessing Marty and Anonymous have had a pretty rough life so far :)
